Evolution of an Engineered Barrier Under Thermal Gradient During the STRIPA Experiments: Influence of the Clay Texture on the Element Transfers
Published online by Cambridge University Press: 10 February 2011
Abstract
Hydrothermal experiments on saturated barrier were conducted for 6 months and 4 years in the granite of the STRIPA mine (Sweden). The French clay Fo-Ca 7 (80 % Kaolinite/Smectite mixed-layer) was compacted (25 MPa) and placed around a steel heater in a 20 cm diameter borehole. The temperature was about 170°C at contact with the heater and only 80°C at clay/granite interface, thus giving a thermal gradient around 10°C/cm
