page 450 note 1 With regard to the cambotta of the Irish missionaries (Columban's in Kempten and Füssen, Kilian's in Würzburg), there should be mentioned the prototype of these Irish crosiers, St. Patrick's ‘ staff of Jesus’, as preserved in St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin, up to the reformation.
page 450 note 2 The parallel between the Teutonic ‘ minni’ drink and the blessing and distribution of the vine on the feast of St. John is less evident than Dr. Blanke believes. This blessing originates from various ancient legends and the drinking of the vine is a relic of the christian ‘ meals of charity ’.
