P-1337 - ADHD as a Risk Factor in Early Distortion of Psychosexual Development
Published online by Cambridge University Press: 15 April 2020
Abstract
It seems that the following factors shall be the predictors of early initiation and tendency for troublesome sexual activity among adolescents with ADHD: high level of fear, low resistance to frustration, compulsive style of suppressing excessive emotional arousment, low level of social functioning, small number of friends, conflictual relations with parents and overlapping recurring adolescence issues - externalizing disorders.
The analysis of narrative descriptions and own survey methods used for the research - among adolescents with diagnosed ADHD - points to possible factors, that might be connected to early initiation of disturbed sexual activity by adolescents with ADHD.
The hypotheses are illustrated by the presentation of a 10-year-old boy with a hyperactive and impulsive ADHD displaying compulsive, secondary hypersexualization and being a victim of homosexual abuse; a 14-year-old girl with ADHD, predominantly with deficits of attention and impulsiveness, engaging in risky sexual behaviours and a 13-year-old boy with ADHD and subsequent conduct disorders, showing aggressive sexual harassment.
It points to the necessity of early detection of distorted sexual development of children and adolescents, especially if they have additional externalizing and internalizing disorders.
