* It seems impossible to assign the precise date to this document, which exists in Harleian MS. No. 2252, fo. 36; but it is evident that it belongs to an early part of the reign of Henry VIII. Nothing more is known of the unfortunate transaction out of which it arose, and the papers of the family throw no light upon it. The petition has been printed, with abbreviations, in the Account of the Parish of Hartburn, Newcastle, 1827. 4to. p. 25.
