The London School of Economics has been very helpful by finding Dr. Crick a room large enough to accommodate a secretary, two extra desks, our filing cabinets and enough shelf space for the many card boxes, reference books and bibliographies we have been assembling (but this “free space” arrangement will not be possible next year).

Organisational problems of getting under way now seem over and the intensive field-work on the reporting of manuscripts has begun, as well as the processing of replies to letters and circulars sent out from the office. The speed with which the project can be satisfactorily complete now depends less on the number of field-workers available (for the situation there has improved greatly since the last report) than upon the uncertain amount of material that we will uncover in hitherto unexamined sources.
