Abstract

F. E. Green has corrected errors regarding the provenience and prior determination of the artifactual nature of the ivory semifabricate reported by Saunders et al. (1990) and has brought forth new information regarding the spring deposits of the north bank of the gravel pit at the Clovis site. This statement addresses the contemporaneity of Clovis occupation with deposition of the gray sand and the relation of the gray sand to spring deposits. We offer it in expectation that a better understanding of north-bank stratigraphy and geochronology might result regardless of which of two views of the archaeology of the gray sand eventually prevails.

F. E. Green ha corregido algunos errores relativos a la proveniencia y previa determinación del carácter artefactual de la pieza de marfil semifabricada descripta por Saunders et al. (1990). También ha proporcionado nueva información sobre los depósitos de vertiente en la orilla norte del pozo de grava del sitio de Clovis. La presente contribución se ocupa de la contemporaneidad de la ocupación Clovis con la deposición de la arena gris y de la relación entre ésta y los depósitos de vertiente. Más allá de cuál de las dos posturas sobre la arqueología de la arena gris prevalezca, esperamos que este diálogo resulte en una mejor comprensión de la estratigraífa y geocronología de la orilla norte.
