Summary
This chapter is a brief review of technological innovation in the Global South, with an emphasis on impoverished countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. I again want to emphasize that Africa is a large and varied continent and therefore will only be explored here in the most general terms. Nonetheless there are commonalities, such as the widespread adoption of cell phones and internet-connected smart phones. In most countries, this and other advances have sparked innovation in banking/finance, agriculture, education, and medicine, which will each be explored in turn.
