My son Adam and daughter Susannah played baseball and softball competitively all the way through high school. They both were much better at the game than I ever was. Lois and I spent many afternoons watching them play each spring, often in the Oregon rain. I adjusted my work schedule as much as possible, and I don’t think I missed many home games. Now my grandson James is excited about the coming season. The kids get to pitch this year, and he is hoping to be a pitcher. Maddie, his younger sister, is gearing up for T-ball, so we will have a double schedule of games to watch this season. I suspect Adam will be involved in coaching both teams. Watching my son pass along his love of baseball to his children is about as good as it gets.
