Summary

Enoch Aboh and Umberto Ansaldo have continued in the tradition of Mufwene and DeGraff. Aboh recasts Mufwene's ideas in generative syntactic configuration and argues that creolization is simply a matter of "competition" and "selection," with the differences in mixture between creoles and other kinds of contact language of no theoretical importance. Ansaldo claims that Creole Exceptionalism misportrays analyticity as "exotic" and misses that creoles are analytic presumably because their source languages usually are. This chapter examines these new arguments.
