As a senior systems engineer for Electronic Data Systems (EDS) I am constantly provided opportunities that require me to apply my overall mathematics education.

After completing one year of graduate work in information science, I decided it was time to apply what I had acquired through schooling to the “real” world. I interviewed with EDS during an on-campus career fair and was impressed by their commitment to their policies, philosophies, and value system. Likewise, EDS was interested in my mathematical background and decided that I would be an asset to their company. That was 12 years ago!

In 12 years with EDS, I have been provided numerous opportunities as a programmer, analyst, team leader, project manager, and site manager. I have also had the opportunity to travel throughout the United States providing support to other EDS accounts. I have worked in the health care, life insurance, manufacturing, and special project areas, and I have relied heavily on my overall mathematical knowledge to assist in completing my tasks. There is not one course that I particularly rely on but the mathematical concepts as a whole. As a programmer and analyst, I used my math background to help me think logically through my assignments. As a member of the leadership staff, I used my math background to help develop project plans, staff leveling, estimating and budgeting.

While going to college I had given serious thought to pursuing an education degree but put that on the back burner when hired by EDS.
