Summary
Music for solo viola, viola and piano, viola and orchestra, with a selection of other works featuring the viola (or violas) with other instruments or voice plus one original work for solo piano by Tertis.
From the early years of the twentieth century until his sudden retirement in 1937 Lionel Tertis premiered some of the most important viola works of that time and arranged and transcribed numerous short ‘salon’ type pieces for his own performance, some of which were published, others remaining in ms. During and after the Second World War he continued to promote his beloved viola with further transcriptions and arrangements.
The following list gives an insight into a large and varied repertoire which helped to enhance the development of the viola as a solo instrument.
